Success Stories - Cost savings through optimization

In addition to the improved water and wastewater treatment, a significant amount of money can be saved through optimization activies. For example, CFB Borden WWTP, built in 1944, was deemed too old to effectively treat its wastewater. The plant received quotes from consultants of approximately $15 million (CAD) to build a new facility. Before designing and constructing the new plant, plant optimization (with members of our team) was tested. The results were so extraordinary that the entire design/construction project was scrapped, saving the plant $15 million. At CFB Winnipeg WWTP, the construction of tertiary filters was recommended to meet effluent requirements. Through skills transfer and improved process control, the existing facility was able to meet all effluent requirements, avoiding capital expenditures of $2.8 million (Canadian). Several other facilities were able to save hundreds of thousands of dollars on improved maintenance activities, chemical control, and capital avoidance.
