Third Party Environmental Coordinator Support For New Manufacturing Business Commissioning and 1st Year Operations - Industry Leader in Pool Manufacturing

Aureus Solutions was contacted by an industry-leading, international pool manufacturer in Ontario, Canada requesting support to determine their environmental obligations for a new facility. The company is internationally based, and while there was an environmental compliance department at the corporate level, they were unfamiliar with the environmental requirements in Ontario and Canada. Aureus was contacted by the Yard Coordinator for expertise and guidance on determining environmental compliance requirements for the commissioning and operation of the facility.

The Challenge:

The manufacturing company was looking to start operations as quickly as possible, but the site nor the HQ had a complete understanding of:

• The environmental legal requirements that were applicable to the site and their activities (environmental legal registry); 

• How these requirements applied to the facility and what future activities could trigger additional requirements;

• Pre-operational environmental approvals;

• The internal policies, procedures and training that needed to be developed and implemented to meet ongoing legal requirements (e.g. WHMIS, TDG); and 

• When and how to conduct environmental reporting (e.g. NPRI, TRA).

The Solution:

Aureus was able to quickly support the site, identify, understand, implement, and maintain the necessary systems and tools to achieve environmental requirements in the short and long term. Aureus conducted a quick visit to understand the business and then worked with the yard staff to develop and implement the environmental program, acting as a third-party Environmental Coordinator. This allowed the client to focus on core business activities without the slowdowns or risks of non-compliance with environmental regulations.

The Outcome & Value:

The facility can now be confident that they have completed their due diligence in determining and meeting their environmental compliance obligations, and Aureus continues to be available as needed, providing on-call support. This third-party environmental coordinator model has allowed the site to reduce their environmental risk and maintain an up to date knowledge of all applicable changes to their requirements at a minimal investment.
