Compliance and System Auditing
Aureus has conducted numerous compliance and EMS audits for both government and private industry clients. We have certified auditing staff with CECAB. We have also helped clients create internal audit protocols to allow for internal auditing practices.
Aureus conducted an environmental compliance audit for a large mining client interested in purchasing an existing business. The purpose of the audit was to determine any environmental compliance risks prior to finalizing the purchase. The successful audit was completed in accordance with CSA Z773.
Greenhouse Gas Inventories and Verification
Aureus can help identify, inventory and verify GHG emissions for your company.
In multiple years, Aureus helped a government client identify, inventory and report on their GHG emissions to their board. The report allowed the organization to track their improvements and report on the successes.
Interpretation of Regulatory Requirements
Aureus helps clients identify, interpret and manage their regulatory requirements. We have worked across North America including local, state/province and Federal.
Since 2010, Aureus has supported a Crown Corporation identify, interpret and monitor their regulatory requirements at their 4 unique facilities. This included establishing their environmental aspects and legal requirements to determine overall environmental risks, developing and implementing environmental programs to manage their risks, conducting regular compliance audits to monitor their performance and provided guidance to improve. This project has significantly reduced the corporation’s risk of non-compliance.
EMS Compliance and Training
Aureus can provide all types of training, from on-site walkthroughs, to in-classroom training. Our team is experienced in adjusting the tempo, setting and material to meet the needs of the audience.
In 2017, Aureus provided compliance training to newly hired site staff on a variety of environmental topics, including storage tanks, halocarbons and waste. Since that time, the class attendees have frequently sought out Aureus to ask follow-up questions and further develop their understanding – a great compliment to our trainer!
EMS Development and Implementation
Aureus has helped clients in a variety of industries understand, strategize, prepare, implement, monitor and audit environmental management systems.
Since 2012, Aureus has supported a large Canadian municipal client with the development and implementation of Environmental Management System. Steps included initial training on EMS elements, an implementation roadmap, policy development and endorsement, an aspects/impacts list and legal register, a gap analysis of existing tools, goal setting, program and procedure development, CAR/PAR process and eventually full-scale implementation via a custom developed intranet app.
Toxic Reduction Planning
Aureus has helped clients understand, develop and report on their toxic reduction requirements in Ontario. Aureus has a certified toxic reduction planner on staff.
Since 2014, Aureus has been helping an industrial client manage their Toxic Reduction requirements. Initially, this included the development of a toxic reduction plan, and since that time, we have helped the client prepare their annual reports and enter their results into NPRI.
Regulatory Reporting
Aureus has helped clients manage all aspects of their environmental management, including regulatory reporting.
As an ongoing project, Aureus has helped a large firm with assets throughout North America manage their fuel storage tank inventories with the associated authorities. This has helped reduce the administrative workload on a taxed internal environmental group.

Contract Operations
For clients struggling to manage the requirements of their water, wastewater or stormwater systems, Aureus can support. We have a large network of certified operators to help manage day to day operational checks, manage maintenance needs, and perform reporting.
Since 2016, Aureus has provided part-time operational relief for a 1 million L/day treatment system in Quebec. The support has allowed the client to hire only one operator and use Aureus to fill in gaps for holidays, sick days and weekends (on-call), making life easier for the operator.
Design and Upgrade Guidance for Owners
Aureus can help owners and managers navigate expensive upgrade decisions as a independent 3rd party, including from initial idea conception, scope and tender development, company selection, design review and commissioning support.
Aureus acted as a 3rd party to help a government client navigate RFP development, design and commissioning process for a new, $15+ million wastewater plant.
Health and Safety Assessments and Hazard Analysis
Aureus helps clients manage their health and safety risks through audits and/or assessments and incorporate these into their procedures.
In 2018, Aureus supported a client review their current O&M practices against corporate policies, legal requirements and best industry practices (municipal water/wastewater) and provided recommendations for improvements, including physical changes, training, procedural improvements, and/or modifications of activities.
O&M Procedure Development
Aureus specializes in creating operations and maintenance procedures for our clients. Our unique approach focuses on providing a simple to use, yet comprehensive document to ensure consistency and quality.
In 2014-16, Aureus created thousands of procedures for a transportation client to manage their over 100 wastewater/stormwater systems. The project has allowed the company to understand their risks, justify resource requirements for new staff, and now better manage their requirements.
Process Consulting and Troubleshooting
Aureus supports clients at all levels and areas with their water, wastewater and stormwater challenges. We focus on working with your existing design and staff to collectively understand and solve challenges to meeting performance targets.
Since 2012, Aureus has provided support to a client with a drinking water and wastewater network of over 20 systems. Issues range from small (developing a daily tour of duty checklist) to large (design review of a $15+ million SBR plant).
Quality Management System Consulting
Ontario has developed a unique and powerful management system standard for managing the quality of drinking water in the province. Aureus provides support developing new systems, conducting internal audits, or performing management reviews.
Aureus has provided auditing services for a large drinking water system provider for several years. The results of the audits have helped create several improvements to the overall corporate management system, helping hundreds of systems across the province.
Risk Assessments / Performance Evaluations
Aureus has conducted hundreds of assessments/evaluations of both drinking water, wastewater (domestic and industrial) as well as stormwater. Our team and network of industry experts can drill into any specific issue.
A performance evaluation of Trinidad’s largest drinking water plant was conducted on the systems operations, maintenance, management and design to identify performance limiting issues. Findings were used to develop a strategy to meet performance goals on a consistent basis.
Training
Aureus provides hands-on training for all levels, including O&M staff, supervisors, management and owners.
In 2017, Aureus conducted a team-building/training exercise for an industrial client and their 7 operators. Aureus provided classroom training on corporate management programs, including a new corrective action process, as well as hands-on training for jar testing, troubleshooting, document and record keeping, and maintenance.
